A renewed laptop is only worth buying if somebody has actually looked at it. This is what gets checked on every unit before it reaches the catalogue.*

  1. Battery

    Measured capacity against the original design capacity, and the figure recorded.

  2. Display

    Checked for dead pixels, backlight bleed and hinge travel across the full range.

  3. Keyboard & trackpad

    Every key pressed. Every gesture and click tested.

  4. Ports & wireless

    USB, HDMI, audio, card readers, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and the webcam.

  5. Storage & memory

    SMART health read, and the capacity confirmed against the listing.

  6. Data

    Previous owner’s drive wiped, then a clean, genuine Windows install.

  7. Chassis

    Cosmetic condition assessed and the machine assigned a grade.

  8. Stress test

    Run under load before it is packed, not just switched on once.

Condition

Three grades, described plainly.

A grade describes appearance, never function. Whatever the grade, the machine works — if it doesn’t, it isn’t listed.

  • Grade A: Light use

    Barely marked. Close to how it left the factory, and priced highest of the three.

    Cosmetic wear 2 out of 6

  • Grade B: Visible wear

    Marks on the lid or palm rest from normal office use. Nothing that affects how it works.

    Cosmetic wear 4 out of 6

  • Grade C: Clear wear

    Scuffs, scratches or a worn finish. Fully working, and priced to reflect the cosmetics.
